Lady Bears Blast Ottawa Hills to Win Sectional Championship

LADY BEARS BLAST OTTAWA HILLS TO WIN SECTIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Cassidy Lane was dominant in the circle, as the starter rang up 11 strikeouts in Margaretta Varsity Lady Polar Bears's 17-7 victory over Green Bears on Tuesday. Lane allowed one hit and zero runs over four and one-third innings while walking one. Margaretta Varsity Lady Polar Bears won thanks in part to 10 runs in the first inning. Lane drew a walk, scoring one run, Brooke Hastings was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Isla Palomo grounded out, scoring one run, E Gehling induced Elie Grime to hit into a fielder's choice, but two runs scored, Tessa Lane doubled, scoring one run, Ellianna Young singled, scoring one run, Lucy Edwards grounded out, scoring one run, and Lane doubled, scoring two runs. Margaretta Varsity Lady Polar Bears added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Green Bears committed an error, and Ellaynah Schaefer hit into a fielder's choice, each scoring one run. Margaretta Varsity Lady Polar Bears added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Palomo doubled down the right field line, Grime singled, and Lane doubled to center field, each scoring one run. Green Bears scored seven runs on four hits in the top of the fifth inning. A Potts singled, scoring one run, K Zheng was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Gehling doubled, scoring three runs, and S McCain doubled, scoring two runs. Gehling took the loss for Green Bears. The starting pitcher went four innings, surrendering 17 runs (13 earned) on eight hits, striking out one and walking eight. Alyssa Reinbolt appeared in relief for Margaretta Varsity Lady Polar Bears. Palomo and Lane each collected two hits for Margaretta Varsity Lady Polar Bears. Lane and Palomo each drove in three runs for Margaretta Varsity Lady Polar Bears. Lane paced Margaretta Varsity Lady Polar Bears with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating eight walks for the game. Margaretta Varsity Lady Polar Bears didn't commit a single error in the field. Hastings had the most chances in the field with 11. Gehling provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Green Bears with three runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. McCain went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Green Bears in hits. Green Bears turned one double play in the game. Margaretta Varsity Lady Polar Bears will travel to Huron for their next game on Thursday. Lady Bears Advance to the District Tournament at Clyde High School next Tuesday night. They will play Lakota at 4:00pm.
