LADY BEARS SURVIVE IN TRIPLE OVERTIME
The Lady Bears improved to 7-0 on after a 71-68 victory over a very talented Oak Harbor squad on Thursday night at the Launch Pad. The Lady Bears were tested in every way and then some! The Lady Bears trailed by 2 points at the end of the first quarter, but picked up the defensive pressure in the 2nd quarter and four Ellyse Schaefer 3 pointers gave Margaretta a 32-21 lead at the half. The 3rd quarter would be a back and forth game, but the Lady Bears would still hold a 12 point advantage, but Oak Harbor's Layni Schmidt would drill a three pointer to trim the Margaretta lead to 46-37 going to the 4th. The Rocket defense would crank up the intensity and the Lady Bears would struggle to get much offense in the 4th quarter as Oak Harbor would storm back tying the game with just under 10 seconds left. The Lady Bears would have the last possession in regulation but an entry pass to Cassidy Lane would be intercepted and the Rockets would force overtime.
In the first overtime both teams battled trading baskets, but it was the Lady Bears holding onto a 3 point lead with under 10 seconds left, but Oak Harbor's Brookelynn Tabbert drilled a deep three pointer to tie the game. After a Margaretta timeout their last second three pointer was off the mark and we headed to a second overtime. Again, it was a battle, this time it was Margaretta that needed a play to extend the game. After a Reagan Markely three pointer that gave the rockets a 1 point lead with 12 seconds left, Kenadie Saylor raced up the floor and attacked the basket, but was fouled on the shot attempted with 5.7 seconds left. Kenadie would miss the first, but make the second. The Lady Bears would get a stop forcing the game into triple overtime. In the third overtime, Thea Wybinsinger would get the Bears on the board first with a lay-up. The Bears would lead by 3, with 5.7 seconds left in the game and decided to foul Tabbert. She would make both free throws, on the in bounds Oak Harbor Lillian Belak and she made both free throws to give the Lady Bears the victory!
