JULIAN WASHINGTON SETS SINGLE GAME SCORING RECORD
Julian Washington Sets Single Game Scoring Record
CASTALIA — Some nights are remembered for the final score. Others are remembered for a performance that redefines the record book.
Tuesday night at Margaretta belonged to Julian Washington.
Washington delivered a historic outing, scoring a school-record 51 points as the Polar Bears cruised to an 82–38 Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division victory over Edison. The performance marked both a career high and the most points ever scored by a Margaretta player in a single game.
The previous school record of 45 points had stood since 2021 when Jake Leibacher set the record. Washington surpassed that mark late in the third quarter, drawing a standing ovation as play briefly stopped to acknowledge the milestone.
Margaretta (8-0, 3-0 SBC Bay) seized control early. After Edison opened the scoring, Washington knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to spark a quick Polar Bear run. He scored 15 points in the opening quarter as Margaretta built a 29–12 advantage.
The second quarter belonged entirely to Washington. He accounted for all 17 of Margaretta’s points in the period, scoring from the perimeter, attacking off the dribble, and finishing in transition to send the Polar Bears into halftime with a commanding 46–23 lead.
Margaretta continued to apply pressure coming out of the break. Washington opened the third quarter with a steal and basket, igniting a 13–0 run that effectively put the game out of reach. A putback midway through the quarter pushed him past 40 points, and moments later he broke the school scoring record at the free-throw line.
With the outcome decided, Washington did not play in the fourth quarter as Margaretta coasted to the finish.
The Polar Bears dominated beyond the scoring column, controlling the glass by a 41–14 margin. Kale Bailey recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds, while Judah Keller added eight points. Keiygan Morris chipped in five points and five rebounds as Margaretta finished the night with balanced contributions across the lineup.
Edison (0-6, 0-3 SBC Bay) was led by Cole Leimeister with 12 points, while Coltyn Meagrow added nine.
Margaretta will break for Christmas before returning to action Monday on the road against Colonel Crawford, a Division VI state semifinalist last season.
