LADY BEARS HEAD TO #1 DEFENDING STATE CHAMPS BELLEVUE
Top-ranked programs clash as Margaretta visits defending state champion Bellevue
Two of the area’s premier girls basketball programs will share the floor this weekend when the Margaretta Lady Bears travel to Bellevue to face the defending Division IV state champion Lady Red in a highly anticipated matchup of unbeaten, top-ranked teams.
Bellevue enters the game 7-0 and ranked No. 1 in Division IV according to MaxPreps, bringing with them the pedigree of last season’s state title. Margaretta is off to an equally impressive start at 8-0, currently ranked No. 1 in Division VI, and building momentum after capturing a district championship a year ago. Given their sustained success and recent postseason accomplishments, these two teams are widely regarded as arguably the top two girls basketball programs in the area.
Margaretta’s success has been fueled by a balanced offensive attack and strong team defense. The Lady Bears are led by Cassidy Lane, who averages 14.8 points per game and 10.6 rebounds, providing a consistent presence inside. Ellyse Schaefer adds scoring punch from the perimeter at 12.9 points per game, while Kenadie Saylor (7.1 ppg) and Thea Wybensinger (6.9 ppg) supply depth and versatility. Margaretta’s ability to defend, rebound, and share the ball has been a major factor in its unbeaten start.
Bellevue counters with a veteran lineup that knows how to win on the biggest stage. The Lady Red are paced by Ava Jacubcin Theis, who leads the team at 14.3 points per game while shooting efficiently from the floor and the free-throw line. KT Turinsky adds 12.9 points per game and a team-high 8.0 rebounds, while guards Maize Gracemyer (10.0 ppg), Ellie Freitag (9.3 ppg, 4.7 assists), and CJ Savage (9.1 ppg) give Bellevue multiple scoring options and strong ball control.
Defensively, Bellevue’s physicality and championship experience will challenge Margaretta’s offensive execution, while the Lady Bears will look to slow Bellevue’s tempo and limit transition opportunities.
The Junior Varsity Game tips off at 11:00am, setting the stage for what promises to be a high-level varsity showdown.
All Margaretta fans are encouraged to wear BLACK as the Lady Bears look to make a statement on the road against one of the state’s elite programs.
With undefeated records, top rankings, and championship pedigrees on both sides, this matchup figures to be an early-season classic between two of Ohio’s best.
