Margaretta boys take control after halftime in road win at Calvert TIFFIN, Ohio — Margaretta turned a competitive first half into a dominant finish Saturday night, pulling away from Tiffin Calvert for a 70-49 victory in Sandusky Bay Conference crossover play. Ranked No. 5 in Division V, the Polar Bears leaned on defensive intensity and balanced scoring to improve to 10-1 on the season. The win was Margaretta’s third straight road game and continued a strong response following its lone setback earlier in the week. Margaretta came out sharp, opening the game on a 6-0 run and holding Calvert to seven points in the first quarter to take a 16-7 lead. The Senecas responded in the second period, knocking down five 3-pointers and trimming the margin to as close as two points before Margaretta steadied itself and carried a 33-28 advantage into halftime. The Polar Bears took full control after the break. Keiygan Morris opened the third quarter with a 3-pointer, and Margaretta’s defense followed with its strongest stretch of the night, limiting Calvert to just six points in the period. Julian Washington sparked the run by converting a three-point play and finishing two transition opportunities at the rim off turnovers, helping Margaretta extend the lead to 53-34 heading into the fourth quarter. Margaretta continued to build the cushion in the final eight minutes. Judah Keller completed a three-point play early in the quarter, Washington added another basket, and Keller followed with a putback midway through the period as the Polar Bears comfortably closed out the win.
