JUDAH KELLER SETS CAREER ASSIST RECORD

Keller sets career assist mark as Polar Bears roll past Huron HURON — Another milestone night added to what has already been a memorable season for Margaretta’s boys basketball team. Senior guard Judah Keller etched his name into the program record book Friday night, becoming the Polar Bears’ all-time leader in assists as Margaretta powered past Huron, 69-36, in a Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division matchup. Keller entered the night needing five assists to break the school mark, and he wasted little time. The record-setting play came midway through the first quarter when Keller delivered a crisp pass to Tyson Bailey in the lane for a basket, pushing his career total to 353 assists. Play was briefly stopped to recognize the achievement, with Keller receiving an encased basketball at midcourt. The record-breaking assist capped a moment that reflected Keller’s style of play — unselfish, composed, and team-focused. He surpassed the previous record of 350 assists held by Nick Leibacher. Keller also made his presence felt on the scoreboard, finishing with 13 points, including three 3-pointers. Eleven of those points came during a decisive second quarter that turned the game into a runaway. Margaretta erupted for 35 points in the period, using ball movement and relentless pressure to break the game open. Margaretta set the tone early, racing out to a 13-0 lead and forcing turnover after turnover with its aggressive defense. The Polar Bears capitalized on those miscues, converting them into easy scoring opportunities and building a comfortable cushion by the end of the first quarter. Senior standout Julian Washington led all scorers with 23 points and added nine rebounds, controlling the paint on both ends of the floor. Washington’s steal and layup midway through the second quarter extended Margaretta’s lead to 30-8 and highlighted the Bears’ dominance. Kale Bailey chipped in 13 points, while Tyson Bailey added 10, as Margaretta showcased its offensive balance. All of the Bears’ starters sat out the fourth quarter as the running clock kicked in late in the third. The victory marked Margaretta’s seventh straight win over Huron, improved the Polar Bears to 14-2 overall and 7-0 in conference play, and served as a strong response following a narrow loss earlier in the week at the Flyin’ to the Hoop showcase. Margaretta now turns its attention to a road trip to Edison on Friday before hosting state power Toledo Central Catholic next Saturday in the Tourney Tune-Up at Castalia.
