Gahler Brings Home Title

GAHLER BRINGS HOME TITLE

The Margaretta wrestling team turned in another strong weekend performance Saturday, finishing 4th out of 13 teams at the tournament hosted by Western Reserve High School. Leading the way once again was Cohen Gahler, who continued his outstanding season by capturing another tournament championship. Gahler, now 21-5, dominated his way through the bracket and secured the title with a decisive victory in the finals over a 22-3 wrestler from New London High School. Margaretta also saw multiple podium finishes in highly competitive weight classes. Trace Wilson and Vincent Barnette both wrestled exceptionally well, earning third-place finishes in brackets that featured several of Ohio’s top-ranked wrestlers. Fernando Gonzalez continued to build momentum in what has been a breakout sophomore campaign. In just his third year in the sport, Gonzalez placed third, improving his season record to 22-8 and showing continued growth with each match. Aiden Moyer had a strong day with a premier win over a 24-6 wrestler from South Central High School. Despite earning a head-to-head victory over the eventual tournament runner-up, a unique tiebreaker scenario resulted in Moyer officially finishing fourth. Lucas Downs showcased resilience and in-match adjustments, rebounding after early setbacks to upset seeded opponents and battle back to a sixth-place finish.
