LADY BEARS CLINCH 8TH STRAIGHT LEAGUE TITLE

Margaretta Lady Bears Capture Eighth Straight SBC Bay Title in Convincing Fashion CASTALIA — The Margaretta girls basketball program continued its sustained excellence Thursday night, overpowering Vermilion Sailors 65–28 to clinch at least a share of the Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division championship for the eighth consecutive season. From the opening tip, Margaretta dictated the pace with relentless defensive pressure and efficient ball movement, building a commanding lead that left little doubt about the outcome. The Polar Bears forced turnovers early and converted them into points, racing out to a 25–9 advantage by the end of the first quarter. That momentum carried into the second period, where Margaretta continued to share the ball and attack in transition. The lead swelled to 48–15 by halftime, with multiple players already reaching double figures as the Polar Bears showcased their depth and balance. A running clock was in effect less than two minutes into the third quarter as Margaretta extended the margin even further. With the game firmly in hand, the Polar Bears relied on strong bench play to maintain energy and defensive intensity through the remainder of the contest. Senior Ellyse Schaefer added another milestone to her career, extending her school record for three-pointers made while finishing with 12 points. Cassidy Lane led the scoring effort with 14 points, while Lanie Schaefer chipped in 10. Nine different players found the scoring column as Margaretta’s depth remained a key factor. Defensively, Margaretta forced 26 turnovers and limited Vermilion to a single three-point field goal, never allowing the Sailors to establish rhythm. With the victory, Margaretta improved to 16–1 overall and 9–0 in conference play, extending its league winning streak to 53 games. The Polar Bears will have an opportunity to secure the Bay Division title outright next week when they travel to Willard. Before returning to conference action, Margaretta will host Columbus Grove at the Tourney Tune-Up in a highly anticipated nonconference matchup.
