POLAR BEARS CLAIM AT LEAST SHARE OF 3RD STRAIGHT SBC TITLE

The Margaretta Polar Bears left no doubt Friday night, overwhelming the Vermilion Sailors 89–40 in a dominant Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division performance. Margaretta’s pace, depth, and perimeter shooting proved too much from the opening minutes. The Polar Bears raced out to a 54–29 halftime lead, then slammed the door after the break, stretching the margin to 72–40 after three quarters before cruising to the lopsided win. The victory pushed Margaretta to 15–3 overall and kept the Polar Bears perfect at 9–0 in Bay Division play. With the win, Margaretta secured at least a share of its third straight SBC Bay Division title, continuing a run of league dominance. Offensively, the Polar Bears were balanced and explosive. Julian Washington led the way with 23 points, while Kale Bailey added 21 points in another strong all-around showing. Margaretta placed six players in double figures or near it, showcasing its depth and unselfish play. Jake Bouy, Keiygan Morris, and Judah Keller each finished with 9 points, while Rob Cox contributed 7 points. Jaxson Bohn chipped in 5 points, Tyson Bailey scored 4, and Tyler Johnson added 2 points to round out the scoring. The Polar Bears were deadly from the perimeter, knocking down 13 three-pointers on the night. Bailey buried five triples to pace the outside attack, while Washington and Cox each connected twice from deep. Bohn, Bouy, Morris, and Keller added one three-pointer apiece as Margaretta stretched Vermilion’s defense all over the floor. On the glass, Washington was again a force, pulling down 10 rebounds. Bailey, Tyson Bailey, and Bohn each added three rebounds, helping Margaretta control the paint and ignite its transition game. Ball movement was a key factor in the win. Tyson Bailey dished out five assists, while Keller, Morris, and Kale Bailey each recorded four assists, keeping Vermilion scrambling throughout the night. Defensively, Washington and Keller also made their presence felt with two steals apiece. With at least a share of the league championship secured, Margaretta now has its sights set on standing alone at the top. The Polar Bears will play for the outright SBC Bay Division title next Friday when they travel to face the Willard Crimson Flashes, who sit just one game back at 8–1 in conference play. MARGARETTA — Washington 23 (2), K. Bailey 21 (5), Keller 9 (1), Bouy 9 (1), Morris 9 (1), Cox 7 (2), Bohn 5 (1), T. Bailey 4, Johnson 2. Totals: 89 (13).
