BEARS ROUT WILLARD, CLAIM 3RD STRAIGHT BAY CHAMPIONSHIP

WILLARD, Ohio (AP) — Division V No. 5 Margaretta completed a dominant conference run Friday night, defeating Willard 90-45 to claim the outright Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division championship. The Polar Bears finished league play unbeaten at 10-0 and improved to 18-3 overall. The title is Margaretta’s third straight SBC Bay Division championship and its fourth in the past five seasons, continuing a stretch of sustained conference success. Margaretta’s offense was efficient and explosive from the perimeter. Kale Bailey scored a career-high 32 points, knocking down six 3-pointers. Four of those came in the third quarter as the Polar Bears turned a comfortable halftime lead into a runaway. Keiygan Morris added 21 points and hit five 3s, helping Margaretta connect for 15 total shots from beyond the arc. Margaretta led 14-8 after the first quarter and extended the margin to 41-20 by halftime. The Polar Bears broke the game open in the third period, outscoring Willard 29-15 to build a 70-35 advantage entering the fourth. A running clock was used in the final quarter as Margaretta added 20 more points to complete the 45-point win. Julian Washington contributed across the stat sheet with seven points, 10 assists and eight rebounds. The senior became Margaretta’s all-time leading rebounder during the game, raising his career total to 657 boards. Tyson Bailey added eight points and seven rebounds, while Judah Keller scored 11 points and dished out seven assists. Rob Cox finished with 11 points, including three fourth-quarter 3-pointers. Defensively, Margaretta pressured Willard throughout the contest. Morris, Keller and Washington each recorded two steals as the Polar Bears controlled tempo on both ends of the floor. Margaretta shot 36 field goals and went 3-for-5 from the free-throw line while committing to its up-tempo style. Willard, which fell to 17-3 overall and 8-2 in the SBC Bay, was led by Jaxson Hall with 22 points but struggled to match Margaretta’s perimeter accuracy and depth. The Polar Bears have now won 21 consecutive league games, a streak that dates back two seasons. With another outright conference championship secured, Margaretta enters the final week of the regular season carrying momentum and reaffirming its position among the top teams in Division V.
