CASTALIA — The Lady Bears closed out the regular season with a dominating performance beating Toledo Christian 59-27. The victory sets the school record for most regular seasons wins in school history as the Lady Bears finish at 21-1. The game had a unique setting played down the street at Margaretta Elementary School due to the wrestling Stockmaster Memorial Invite. The Margaretta Lady Bears seized control early and never let up, building an 18-6 lead after one quarter and stretching the margin to 41-11 by halftime. The Lady Bears matched Toledo Christian point-for-point in the third quarter before closing the game with a 10-8 edge in the fourth. The decisive second quarter broke the game open. MHS poured in 23 points while holding Toledo Christian to just five, turning a 12-point advantage after one into a 30-point cushion at the break. MHS shot an efficient 58.5 percent from the field (24 of 41), including 6 of 12 from 3-point range, and finished with a 65.9 effective field goal percentage. The Lady Bears also converted 5 of 11 free throws and scored 28 points in the paint. Defensively, they forced 19 turnovers and limited Toledo Christian to 30 percent shooting. Kenadie Saylor and Layni Schaefer led a balanced attack for MHS. Schaefer’s 12 points, while Saylor added four offensive rebounds and 11 total boards. Fitzthum was perfect from the field and the line, and Keller contributed four assists. Kingsborough added eight rebounds and two assists. MHS also controlled the glass with 28 total rebounds, including 11 on the offensive end, and dished out 16 assists on 24 made field goals. The Lady Bears recorded 12 steals. Layni Schaefer led the way with 3 steals.
