POLAR BEARS DOMINATES EDISON 86-42 TO WIN SECTIONAL

CASTALIA, Ohio (AP) — The scoreboard told the story early, and by halftime, the outcome was no longer in doubt. Margaretta used a blistering start and suffocating defensive pressure to overwhelm Edison 86-42 on Friday night in a Division VI sectional final at The Iceberg. The Polar Bears improved to 20-3 overall and secured their fourth straight sectional championship, all coming on their home floor. For seniors Julian Washington, Judah Keller, Jake Bouy, Keiygan Morris and Ayden Miller, it marked the final home game of their careers — a group that compiled a 40-6 record inside the 750-seat gym, including a 21-1 mark over the past two seasons. Fast start sets tone Margaretta wasted little time asserting itself. Kale Bailey scored seven quick points during an 11-2 opening burst as the Polar Bears pushed the tempo and capitalized on early Edison turnovers. By the end of the first quarter, Margaretta had built a commanding 28-11 advantage. The Polar Bears shot efficiently from the field in the opening eight minutes and consistently converted defensive rebounds into transition opportunities. Keller controlled the glass early, finishing with a team-high nine rebounds, limiting Edison to one-shot possessions. Washington leads second-quarter surge The game broke open in the second quarter behind Washington’s offensive explosion. He poured in 12 points in the period, attacking the rim in transition and knocking down perimeter shots. Washington entered halftime with 22 points and finished with a game-high 28, while also recording four steals. Tyson Bailey complemented the effort with 13 first-half points and 16 overall, doing much of his damage along the baseline and in mid-range spots. His physical play helped stretch the defense and open driving lanes. Margaretta’s ball movement was sharp throughout the half. Kale Bailey distributed a team-high seven assists, repeatedly finding cutters and shooters in rhythm. Morris and Keller each added four assists as the Polar Bears showcased unselfish play in building a 52-24 halftime lead. Six different Margaretta players scored before the break. Defense fuels dominant second half. Any hopes of an Edison rally were extinguished in the third quarter. Morris caught fire from beyond the arc, drilling three 3-pointers in the frame — accounting for all nine of his third-quarter points — as the Polar Bears extended the lead to 72-34 entering the fourth. Margaretta forced consistent pressure on the perimeter, generating steals from Washington (4), Keller (2) and Morris (2). The Bears converted those takeaways into quick points, maintaining their aggressive approach despite the comfortable margin. Tyler Johnson added five points in the fourth quarter as Margaretta closed out the 44-point victory. The Polar Bears finished with eight 3-pointers and placed 11 players in the scoring column. Margaretta defeated Edison three times this season, also winning 82-38 and 69-35 during the regular season. Up next With the sectional title secured, Margaretta now turns its attention to the district round and a bid for its third consecutive district championship. The Polar Bears will face Huron at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Lakota High School.
