Gonzales Captures Sectional Title CASTALIA — The postseason is heating up, and the Margaretta wrestling team proved it will be well represented at the district tournament. Sophomore Fernando Gonzales delivered the highlight of the weekend, capturing a sectional championship with an emphatic pin in the finals over his Oak Harbor opponent. Gonzales controlled the match from the opening whistle before finishing it with authority, earning the title and advancing to districts as a top-seeded wrestler. Gonzales’ championship performance capped a dominant day and further solidified what has been a steady, confident season for the sophomore standout. Freshman Vinny Barnette continued to show why he is one of the program’s rising stars. Barnette secured third place in his weight class in impressive fashion, recording a convincing 58-second technical fall in the consolation finals. Cohen Gahler added to Margaretta’s strong showing by finishing fourth in his bracket. Gahler has put together an excellent season and once again proved resilient in a loaded field, earning his spot at districts. Trace Wilson battled his way to a fifth-place finish and remains hopeful for an opportunity to compete next weekend, depending on district qualification procedures. Rounding out the Polar Bears’ sectional placers were Skylar Ballin and Jaxon Shearn, who each earned sixth-place finishes. The District Tournament will start Friday night at Rossford High School. The finals will be on Saturday back at Rossford High School.
